This morning, a new member was added to the ACI community—the dedication of a sapling to replace the venerable tree at the center of the ACI quadrangle. 🌱
During a brief dedication ceremony, Rev. Dr. J. Settles delivered a profound prayer, followed by a benediction from the Rector, Prof. Philip T. Laryea.
The sapling, a distinctive species known as Mimusops elengi, is a medium-sized evergreen tree native to tropical forests in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and northern Australia. Common names in English include Spanish cherry, medlar, and bullet wood. Its timber is highly valued, and its fruit is edible. Due to the trees’ ability to provide dense shade and the fragrance emitted by its flowers, it is a treasured addition to gardens and is widely used as an ornamental tree. The flowers also have applications in natural perfumery.
